In November, 1983, Sonlife Quartet travelled to Nashville for a weekend recording session at Goldmine Studio. Sonlife Quartet’s bass singer is Frank Poland. His son, Danny Poland, a high school 9th grader, accompanied the quartet to Nashville. This was Danny’s first exposure to a recording studio. The following is Danny’s reflection on his first day in a recording studio:
“Many, many moons ago (1983) just after my fifteenth birthday I stepped foot in a recording studio. Goldmine Studios in Nashville. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of my career in music. Check out all the gear that’s now called vintage. Sony/MCI recording console (plasma meter bridge) with matching JH-24 Multitrack recorder, API Lunchbox, Auratone speakers (we use to call them horror tones), and a Moog Synthesiser to boot. Man I was styling back then with my IZOD shirt, dock siders, and white wash jeans.”
